The Philosophy of www.hindutemplehouston.net
- We believe in the validity of all peace-loving, tolerant religions. But this does not mean that we agree with all the beliefs, practices, and principles of the various religions.
- We believe that there is only one God named differently by different religions. This God is named and interpreted differently by different religions. Let us give an analogy. Just as water is called "agua" in Spanish, "jala" in Sanskrit, "pani" in Hindi, "aab" in Urdu, God is called "God" by the Christians, "Allah" by the Muslims, "Krishna" or "Rama" by the Hindus. If visitors from different countries were to assemble in a city in the hot summer, some would ask for "pani" some would ask for "aab" and so on. But they would all be asking for the same thing. In the same way when people need God in times of need, Hindus pray to Brahman, or Rama, or Krishna, Christians pray to God through Jesus, and Muslims pray to God whom they call Allah. All are praying to the same one God.
- We believe that people who think that their own religion is superior to other religions are either ignorant, or prejudiced, or politically motivated to spread their own religion at the cost of other religions.
- We are against extremism of all forms, including religious fanaticism, and political extremism. We are against racism, anti-Semitism, and xenophobia of all forms.
- We believe in rational thought and reject all ideas that do not pass the test of reason.
- We expect our members, most of whom live in the U.S., to be completely loyal to the United States and its government. However all our members are expected to abide by the spiritual and moral principles of Hinduism.
- We are completely opposed to the Hindu Caste System, which only serves to weaken the Hindu religion and Hindu people. The caste system is not in keeping with the siprit of modern times.
- We believe that all Hindus are equal regardless of what caste they were born in. Similarly all people in society are equal regardless of their race, gender, religion, social or economic status.
