June 9, 2025 (ATLANTA, GA) – The Association for Dental Safety (ADS), formerly known as OSAP, proudly announced the recipients of the 2025 Leadership Awards during its Annual Conference on May 30 in Orlando, FL. “At ADS, our annual awards represent the highest appreciation for those who inspire progress and elevate standards in dental infection prevention and safety,” said Michelle Lee, CPC, Executive Director of ADS. “This year, we are proud to honor leaders and rising stars who embody ADS’s mission through outstanding achievement, unwavering commitment, and innovative leadership. Their dedication, expertise, and advocacy strengthen our global community and move our profession forward.”
Dr. James J. Crawford Award: Jackie Dorst, RDH This lifetime achievement award honors major contributions in science, education, or public policy related to infection control and dental safety. Jackie Dorst, RDH, was recognized for her remarkable career advancing infection prevention, patient and provider safety, and dental education. With more than 35 years of dedicated service, she has trained thousands of professionals and made a global impact through her presentations and policy work. Her tireless advocacy and ability to translate research into practice embody the essence of this award.
Dr. Milton Schaefer Award: Liliana Donatelli, BS, MBA, MPH, CDIPC This award honors superior service to ADS, recognizing continuous contributions or significant accomplishments. Liliana Donatelli was celebrated for her commitment to education and her instrumental role in extending ADS’s reach internationally, particularly in Brazil. Her leadership at CIOSP 2025 and coordination of global collaborations have raised standards and advanced ADS’s mission.
Emerging Infection Control Leader Award: Monica Satake, CDA, EFDA, CDIPC, BSEd, MHE Awarded to outstanding new stars in the dental infection control field, this year’s honoree is Monica Satake. She has played a pivotal role in policy development, training, and establishing key safety competencies, especially within VA dental clinics. Ms. Satake is also recognized for her educational outreach, including efforts to raise awareness on human trafficking in the dental field.
Bette & Paul Schwarz Award for Volunteerism: Jen Hawley Price, MAS, MS This award honors exemplary volunteer service. As Chief Partnership and Engagement Officer at the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) and the DALE Foundation, Ms. Hawley Price has been instrumental in advancing infection control resources, facilitating key programs, and strengthening collaborative partnerships. Her generosity and leadership have significantly benefited the ADS community.
Chair Citation Awards ADS Chair Ramneek Rai, DDS, 2024–2025, presented special citations to oral healthcare professionals Eve Cuny, MS, CDIPC; Karen Gregory, RN, CDIPC; David Reznik, DDS, ICD; and Sarah Stream, MPH, CDIPC, CDA, FADAA, for their contributions to the 2025 Dental Infection Control Boot Camp. Additional citations were awarded to ADS staff Ashley Quackenbush, MPH, CHES; Natalia Hurd, CMP; Emily Hammonds, MA; and Michelle “MK” Sisco for their dedication to annual events and daily operations.
Dr. James A. Cottone Award for Excellence in Investigative Research: Richard Hankins, MD, MS Dr. Hankins received the award for his poster presentation, “Impact of Leadership in Infection Control: Insights from a National Dental Healthcare Personnel Survey.” Co-authors of the poster were Mounica Soma, BDS, MHA, MS, CDIPC; Juan Teran-Plasencia, MD; M. Salman Ashraf, MBBS; and Sarah Stream, MPH, CDIPC, CDA, FADAA.
