HIV/AIDS

Overview

More than 30 years after the first case of AIDS was reported, HIV remains a significant cause of illness and death. Though great progress has been made in slowing the epidemic, within the overall epidemic, some groups and areas are more affected than others. Therefore, we must remain vigilant and focus our resources where they will make the biggest difference.

One of the best sources for information on HIV and prevention from an oral healthcare standpoint is HIVdent. HIVdent is a not-for-profit coalition of concerned health care professionals who are committed to assuring access to high-quality oral health care services for adults, adolescents, and children living with HIV disease. HIVdent disseminates state-of-the-art treatment information and shares expertise in advocacy, development, training, integration, and evaluation of oral health services for the HIV-infected population.
