The board member spotlight showcases an OSAP board member monthly to allow you to get to know OSAP's leadership better and to recognize our board members' outstanding contributions to the field and the organization. For the September 2021 spotlight, meet OSAP Association Board Director Jessica Higginbotham, MPH.
How long have you been a member of OSAP?
I have been a member since 2006 when I first joined the dental industry as an infection control and prevention sales representative.
What is your favorite part of the OSAP annual conference?
The people! The people of OSAP are the heart of the organization. There is such a comfort and familiarity with perfect strangers all brought together by OSAP's mission to support The Safest Dental Visit. Everyone has something to contribute and everyone has something they can learn at OSAP. That's the beauty!
What is your current occupation?
Director at HuFriedyGroup in our Infection Prevention business.
What led you to work in the dentistry/infection control industry?
It was where I landed without any prior knowledge of the opportunity in the dental industry or of infection control and prevention as a niche. I had some really great motivators in the people who were change agents in the industry for infection control and patient safety. I knew then it was important and I realize I have an opportunity to help my company make a significant impact to support employee safety, patient safety and do so with efficiency be bringing great product solutions to the market.
When you aren't working how do spend your free time?
I am a voice over talent! You might hear me as you are listening to a blog, a promo video, a commercial or other voice narrated content.
What would you tell someone who's debating joining OSAP?
I would tell someone what I was told 16 years ago... "If you are going to have a career in dentistry, you will always have a relationship with OSAP because they are the only dedicated dental infection control and prevention organization out there". This is still true and I have!
